Janette & Luca’s Beginning (Epistolary Letters)

August 25, 2022

Dear Luca,

My name is Janette Myers. I’m from Manhattan, New York. I’m a junior at Stall University. I work in the library on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. I noticed you were sitting by yourself reading what I think was Shakespeare. I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but I think you’re really cute. I saw that you were wearing a school football jersey with the number 22. Are you on the team? I know that this might be cringe, but I don’t care. Many of the librarians have said that you visit the library every weekend. Before I left work today, your id was on the front desk to be returned to you. Would you like me to return your id tomorrow morning on Friday? I hope you receive this letter and reply. It’s alright if you don’t. Have a nice day.

From, Janette.

Dear Janette,

It’s Luca Jackson. I received your letter safely at my dorm mailbox. I am on the football team. That’s the reason why I’m attending Stall. The team is better than all of the other universities I’ve applied to throughout senior year of high school. I’m from Harlem, New York. I’m a senior. I never would’ve thought you would be from New York. And yes, I was reading Shakespeare. My friend is having this project where she has to make a film inspired by any author they choose, and she chose Shakespeare. I’ve been reading Macbeth, Julius Caesar, and King Lear. I don’t understand the story of Julius Caesar. I was hoping since you’re a student and a librarian that you could help me. I would appreciate your help very much. I didn’t realize I left my id at the library until I received your letter. That would be amazing of you to give it to me in the morning. I have a class at 9, so I will come by at 8:30 to pick it up. Also, I think you’re really pretty. The way your glasses define your face and your comfy outfits makes it 10 times better. I hope to speak with you in person soon and through letters more.

Thank you, Luca.

Dear Luca,

It was amazing seeing you this morning. I enjoyed the conversation we had properly introducing ourselves. You have no idea what I was dealing with. To be honest, I was anxious. I’ve never done anything like this, and I figured why not try communication in letters instead of emails. Thank you for the compliments on my glasses by the way. I know you mentioned them in person as well, but reading your words in your writing is admirable. I guess I should start wearing my glasses more often, don’t you think? Anyways, I hope you visit me again in the library to discuss Julius Caesar. I’m available all day on the days I work as I mentioned in my last letter. Maybe one day, we could get coffee at Dina’s Cafe down the street. Get to know each other more. I’m interested in you because I have never met anyone like you before. Not to sound cliche. I was interested in your thoughts throughout the letter while reading your background information. This has been a nice introduction to each other so far. I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy this letter.

From, Janette.

Dear Janette,

I’m glad you enjoyed our conversation yesterday morning before I left for marketing. I don’t mind you saying that I’m different from other guys you have met. I love the idea of trying something new. Especially with a cute girl like you. Writing letters to you has made me feel better about myself. I have been stressed about the homecoming game next week and I would appreciate coffee before my practice. Does sunday work for you? If not, that’s okay. I can always meet you in the library. I forgot to mention this to you this morning, but your dress was very beautiful. That gray sweater dress was something. I appreciate you so much that I hope we continue these letters in the future.

From, Luca.

Dear Luca,

I understand the stress you must go through for those games. It must be a lot. Also, they must mean a lot to you. But, I would love to get coffee with you on Sunday. I can always squeeze in free time in my schedule. Especially for you. Would it be okay if we meet by lunch time? I’m usually busy with my roommate in the mornings. I hope you understand. I’m excited to know more about you. I’m blushing right now. I can’t wait to see and speak with you again. I still can’t believe this is happening because of me. I hope that tomorrow will be sunny and joyful.

Love Janette.

Dear Janette,

I had an amazing time with you at the cafe. Sitting with you and talking about growing up in New York is something that I was looking forward to. Not many people from New York attend Stall, which I’m surprised because it’s new in the area. I loved the story that you told of how you never wanted to wear your glasses because people said you looked like Dr. Cockroach from Monsters vs Aliens. I can never imagine that because you don’t look like him. I was enlightened about your experiences living in different apartments throughout New York. I wish we had more time to discuss your stories because I felt like we have known each other for many years. I really enjoyed the coffee, and I hope you did too. Let me know if you ever want to go out for coffee again. Next time, it’s on me. I hate watching you pay for your drink. I know that it was your idea to start talking to each other, but I should’ve been the one to pay. I really adore you, Janette. I can’t stop thinking about you. Janette. Janette. Janette. I hope that you now focus on your courses. Maybe I can help you in business. I remember you told me that you were struggling in business. I don’t mind helping you. It would be rude of me not to. Especially, if you’re helping me with this project. Good luck in your courses and work. I hope we talk more in these letters that make my day brighter.

From Luca.

Dear Luca,

I’m glad you enjoyed the cafe. I loved every second of it. I enjoyed the stories of how you have played on multiple football teams at the age of 4. I still can’t believe you had the time at such a young age with dedication. I really enjoyed sharing my stories with you. Don’t ever mention Dr. Cockroach again! Also, I have noticed your grammar has gotten better in the letters you’ve sent. Enlightened? I wonder what made you want to focus on your grammar in these letters. I hope the explanation I gave you about Julius Caesar was helpful. If you would like, I can send you resources through email from youtube and other articles explaining the story more in depth. That’s helpful to me and other students. I learned that throughout the many English courses I have taken. Unfortunately, I have to take a break from these letters until Friday because many short exams are coming up and I have to focus. But don’t worry, I will always think about you. Every second. Every minute. Every hour. I hope that you continue to send me numerous letters of any other stories you would like to share with me. I will always believe in you. Inside and out. Good luck at practice throughout this week. I hope you have enough time to send me a letter after a day of practice. I would love to hear from you after a day you’ve spent on the field. Maybe write a letter to me while on the field with pictures. Thank you for trusting me with your project and understanding myself as a person. I really do appreciate you, and I wish I could spend more time with you throughout the day.

Love Janette.

Dear Janette,

I know it’s Sunday, but I have been thinking about something for a while. Throughout the stories we have shared together. The letters we have sent to each other. The feelings expressing themselves in person. It’s crazy. I hope that you read this with true passion. I have been holding this secret question for the past few days. I couldn’t wait any longer. My mind has been forming explosive thoughts of appreciation for you as a person. I don’t mean to sound mysterious in any way, but I hope you answer with your pure, loving, caring heart. Would you like to go on a date with me? An actual date. Not for a cup of coffee. Not walking on campus. Not in the library. An actual date. Just you and me. Whatever and wherever you want. I was thinking we could go to the beach and have a picnic. The beach is only ten minutes away by drive, and the weather is still nice. I think that it would be the best day for the both of us. I don’t know if you would like this idea, but maybe we could read Julius Caesar during the date. The sounds of the waves crashing. The wind cooling down our burning cheeks when smiling towards each other. The snacks keeping us together. The blanket as our seat on the sand. When finishing Julius Caesar, we could walk along the beach with our feet in the water. Saying the most embarrassing stories of our lives. I would love to see you watch the sunset with your glasses. You know how much I love you with your glasses. I don’t care if you take them off forever or change the design, I will love your glasses no matter what. I want to adore you just as much as you adore me with your help. I want us to be close together. I would love to call you my lover. My day 1. My everything. I have never felt this way about a girl in my entire life. And I mean it. You’re special to me. I know that we’ve known each other for a couple of days, but it feels like we’ve known each other since birth. I feel like I have never wanted anything more than to share a wonderful moment with you. Because you deserve everything in this world. I hope that you are willing to make these moments happen. So I will ask you again. Would you like to go on a date with me?

Love, Luca.
