In class, we presented our final projects about any topic of letters we admire. I decided to do pen pals to and from children because I thought children letters are too adorable not to talk about. I was decided on something completely different with language, but I decided to do something I’m comfortable talking about. I have learned more about letters that are in movies, depths of love letters, and funny letters from children to famous people from other classmates. I think everyone did a great job with keeping everything different because we all can agree that we have learned something from research on how letters impact us for our knowledge and interests.
With my presentation, I focused on the meaning of pen pals to and from children. I personally wrote some form of pen pal letter growing up, and many people can relate to that. I have learned that having children learn to read and write letters to teachers, family members, or friends helps impact them on creativity and beliefs in what they want for the future. I have read letters from teachers to students, friends to friends, and a story of how pen pal letters helped a child jump back from being sad in difficult situations. I was fascinated with how the letters were represented because they all are bright, clear, and overall mesmerizing to read.
As a person that wrote letters while growing up in school, I can say that they were fun. Filling in spaces and drawing pictures of how you think you look like was an activity that made me understand myself as a child to enjoy writing. As I got older, I’ve had a lot of people mention how beautiful my handwriting is, and I can’t deny that I love my handwriting as well. Having children write letters at a young age improves many skills. But the main skill they learn about themselves is how great of a person they are with a writing tool and paper.
