Week 12: Open Letters

In class, we discussed a series of cover letters from Letters of Note. We then shared what our letters were about to a partner, wrote down what we have learned on an index card from our partner, swapped cards, and spoke to the class about our own letter. Interesting way to multi-task with writing and listening. The letters were mixed of different celebrities and children. Listening to everyones letter was interesting because a lot of them were different and common. I could say that these letters were made to be heard and read as comedic and serious than professional.

My letter was called I am not afraid of robots, I am afraid of people which was written by Ray Bradbury and sent to Brian Sibley. It consisted of how Ray was focused on screenplay and how Disney is their target. Not literally a target, but more of a target as a comparison of what they should do with architects. Bradbury stated in his letter that he should be viewed the same way as Disney because of how much effort was put into his work. I found it hilarious of how the ending of the letter related to the title of the letter because of Disney and the high qualities they bring for “happiness.”

Overall, the letters were fun to listen to because of how they all had something to do with being better in life. I think that the letters were harsh based on the titles, but they all had something to share to somebody. It was also interesting how we all had our own takeaways from the letters. These letters were all moments that resembled life-changing scenarios. All that matters is how they shared their thoughts in letters with humor.
